How To Prepare for IELTS in 7 Days

People often ask how to prepare for IELTS in 7 days. The question is simple enough, but the answer is not. We will try to break things down for those who want the answer.

Take ONE mock test, Please!

If you want to know where your level is, take one mock test. Actually, you can do it at home, but we suggest enrolling for a mock test package at your nearest center. Just taking one mock test will give you your basic evaluation.

Please, take ONE mock test before you Register for your Official IELTS test.

Tips for the last 7 days:

Once you have your level, if you belong to 6-9 level, then follow the instructions below, please.

  1. Decide which part of IELTS is your weakness.
  2. If you have a Listening weakness, then for the last 7 days, practice listening as many hours as you can manage from your daily life.
  3. While you practice listening, practice taking notes in the shortest possible way. Invent the best way you can write down important information or answer without wasting time worrying about writing a whole word. For example, if the answer is Thursday, write Thu.
  4. If you have weaknesses in the speaking section, talk to a mentor or teacher from your mock test center and find out where exactly you need to improve. S/he will give you some hints to work with.
  5. This will give you a lot of confidence. If you do not have a weakness in listening, then try to balance between the time for listening and speaking.
  6. If you have weakness in speaking, then you definitely have weakness in your writing. Because we write or speak from our mind. There could be a 0.5 point difference between the two.
  7. Talk to your instructor about the problems of writing. Show him/her your writing samples. Try to minimize the errors as much as possible.
  8. Write two or three samples every day and have them checked by your teacher.

For Reading Weakness:

We will try to make it as simple as possible.

  1. Your questions. You will see that there are various types of reading questions, such as choosing headings, filling in the blank, etc. Try to find out which type is your best and which are the bad ones.
  2. Based on the ranking, try practicing to answer the best questions first.
  3. This way, move to the 2nd best and like this till you can manage to answer the worst.
  4. You have to follow this grading without a doubt. If you miss even half a minute, this could be fatal for you. So, always answer the best one first.
  5. After the end of every mock reading test, ask the teacher to help you understand why you could not answer correctly. Sometimes, you could not answer just because you did not have time or did not understand a few lines in the passage.
  6. Always read when you are not taking mock tests. Reading more will give you an understanding of the more complex sentence structure in a passage. Take the help of a teacher for this practice. The teacher can explain the meaning of various sentences.

If you can practice this way, you will be able to save a bit of time and revisit the questions you have left behind.

IELTS exam is meant to show how good your English understanding is. The more your practice English in your everyday life, the better you become as a user. So, do not take practicing English in your daily life lightly if you really want a good score.
