If you have registered or are willing to register for IELTS, being able to write a good essay will be a big concern. This article will lay out some tips for writing perfect IELTS essays.
Step one
First of all, when you see a problem statement or a problem, you should read it, analyze keywords, and find out what the statement is asking you to do. So, your number one priority is to analyze the topic by reading it. This stage is called brainstorming.
Step two
Go to the back of your workbook or writing script and write down your thoughts in simple keywords. Do not write long sentences — just a word or two for each of the points you want to cover in your essay.
Step three
Decide the order of your points. You need to put the points in order because, if not, you may regret it later in your writing. So, select the order of your thoughts.
Step four
Always divide your essay into three main parts – introduction, body, and conclusion.
Step five
Avoid using ‘I, we’ or any personal pronouns. Do not ask questions to prove your point; rather, paraphrase the questions in assertive sentences.
Step six
Write in clear handwriting. Think before you write. Always be careful about grammar and spelling mistakes. Do not write too much or too short. Keep it within the given word limits. You can write more but avoid it if you can.
Writing more will not guarantee you a good score. Verbose answers take time to write. Best answers are always precise. Try to mix various sentence patterns such as complex, compound, and simple to show that you can handle them.
However, if you are not confident, you can learn how to write them and practice them at home with your tutor. In the introduction, write a catchy topic sentence, and list the ideas you will cover in your writing.
In the body, neatly write down your points and evidence that underpin your points. In conclusion, write a short review of what you have already covered in the body and give your concluding statement to end the essay.
Your intro and conclusion should be around 30 percent of the word limit given for the task, and the rest of the words can go into the body of the text. So, it will be like 15, 70, and 15 percent to intro, body, and conclusion, respectively.
Step Seven
Revise. Revise. Revise. I mention this because I believe this is either the best part or the worst nightmare. If you have mistakes and overlook them during writing, the revision will help you solve them, but you will get a lower score if you do not revise.
You will need to take help from a tutor and practice regularly with him/her to find out the flaws in your writing style. Fix all the bad habits by writing the same topic three to four times. It will give you an idea of how to master your thoughts and put them into writing. This way, you will improve your writing for IELTS. Hope you get, tips for writing perfect IELTS essays.
